All in a Day's Play

My friend, yes that you Heidi, gave us a bunch of wild animals work books, flashcards and games. Emmett asked, "How did she know I love wild animals!?" Today we read the flashcards and worked in the workbook.

Played the animal matching game. Basically it's a bunch of animals cut in half. The kids had to find the matching top and bottom half of the animals. The 4 year old loved it, the 3 year old and 2 year old females were able to do it with a bit of assistance and the 2 year old male enjoyed being part of the excitement.

Then we filled the tub with water and tried not to flood the bathroom.

Barney, Blanket bounce and Story Time

This morning started with the attempt to exercise. I looked on Netflix instant play and the closest thing to a child exercise video I could find was a Barney Sing and Dance video. It's really hard to stay crabby when you're dancing!
Then onto core-muscle building activities! Today we made a trampoline for our stuffed animals. In the past we've done this with a big sheet but with the smaller kids it actually worked better with this receiving blanket.
Then we sat together and told a joint story. We threw the ball to whomever would add the next part of the story. Since the kids didn't really develop the plot, I would provide very leading statements like, "When they got to the zoo, the first animal Prince Emmett wanted to see was the..." The kids had an absolute blast and wanted to do it over and over.
Isn't Eisley's face darling when she's thinking and talking.
"And...."
Emmett was being a monkey.
And then just to capture the less pleasant part of our day...yes, it's not all smiles and giggles!

Snip and dip

Today we pulled out the tissue paper, scissors, glue and wax paper. A little snipping, a little dipping (in the glue) and a little pressing (sorry, couldn't think of a -ipping word)...
Photobucket Photobucket
...and voila, a stained glass window decal!

Then we pulled out the colored ice cubes we made last week. Last week, we pulled out the "primary color" food coloring and experimented mixing colors. After waiting for them to freeze, we melted them in warm water. Our goal was to refreeze the ice cubes in the water to make a wreath. That didn't really work, so we just watched them melt.

Last but not least, we did some math games with sweethearts. Who doesn't love a subtraction problem that includes eating candy sweethearts!

Dryer

Our dryer has been out for a few days which means I haven't been doing much laundry. Eisley seems to have taken it upon herself to do laundry. While she was doing this...
Photobucket
I was doing this... and it worked! I fixed our dryer! I made a few phone calls, looked up some information on the internet and watched a few YouTube videos. I ordered the replacement heating coils and installed them. I LOVE doing things I wouldn't have expected I could do!

Oil pastels in paradise!

Another day in paradise. Actually it's been a few rough days here. Ender and Eisley both have ear infections which means that Ender has been sleeping constantly and Eisley has not been sleeping at all. We started antibiotics over the weekend so I'm hoping to see improvement in the near future. In the meantime we will color with oil pastels...
Oil pastels you say? Yes, oil pastels. We had a fabulous speaker at MOPS who encouraged us to focus on the process not the product when it comes to kids' art. I loved that! I always feel like I have to come up with a "craft" before we can sit down and do something. The speaker also suggested a few new art supplies, one of which were oil pastels. So we mixed colors and rubbed the colors together. It was a fun change!
We also took care of my friends' amazingly adorable 7 month old, who is, by the way, significantly smaller and more agile than my 5 month old. She is just a doll. It was really fun to have her around! Emmett was such a great help, if you couldn't tell!
Yesterday, Valentine's Day, we received a HUGE box at our front door. It was packed full of gifts from my aunt and uncle for the kids! Christmas in February. The kids were beyond excited and are still wearing their jammies for the second night in a row (and wore them all day).
So today, we spent some time writing a thank you note!
